Address: Kullasvuorenkuja 2, 17500 Padasjoki
The viewing tower (“Maisematorni Iso-Tuomas”) in the Kullasvuori recreational area next to Padasjoki Harbour is well worth a visit. It offers spectacular views over the Päijänne National Park and surrounding landscape. There are forest paths leading up to the hilltop from the road Kullasvuorenkuja. There is also a frisbee golf course in the area.
Kullasvuori hill is the southernmost part of an esker beginning on the northern side of Kellosalmi. The esker formed during the late phase of the Ice Age when melting waters transported gravel and sand to the side of rocky Tuomasvuori hill. Raised beaches from the marine and lake phases that followed the retreat of the continental ice sheet can be seen on the sides of the esker.
