During this round-trip you can experience the best of capital area and Finnish Lakeland in sustainable way! The tour includes accommodation either in high-end private lakeside villas, green hotels and countryside inn, local and organic food, guided urban nature tours and tips for sustainable visits, restaurants and shopping.
DAY 1 FINNISH COTTAGE RETREAT
Arrival in Helsinki Vantaa Airport and drive with an environmentally friendly electric car, a hybrid car or a plug-in hybrid car to Vihti / Hawkhill Cottage Resort surrounded by Nuuksio National Park (57 km / 1 hour). Ecological car options you can find for example from Hertz Green Collection.
Accommodation in beautiful lakeside cabin. Welcoming blueberry shot at the villa with the owners and Finnish three course dinner.
DAY 2 TREASURES OF THE FOREST
Breakfast at the cabin. During the day, self-guided hikes at Nuuksio National Park. Enjoy the forests and lakes and traditional Finnish lunch & picnic! Later in the evening, relax
in the sauna and cook your own Finnish dinner from organic and fresh local ingredients.
DAY 3 LAHTI - THE EUROPEAN GREEN CAPITAL
After breakfast, have a short walk in the forest or go rowing on the lake before driving to Lahti (123 km, 1 hour 40 min), the European Green Capital 2021. Accommodation in centrally located green hotel, which has a Green Key Certification and Sustainable Travel Finland Label. Time to explore the European Green Capital City, which provides a stunning setting in which to enjoy nature at its freshest and purest - even at the city center! Head to Salpausselkä Geopark—formed by the last Ice Age—that is currently applying for a UNESCO Global Geopark status! You can choose from two options:
• Guided E- fatbike tour - ecological way to explore Salpauselkä area
• Guided two-hour walking tour “Salpauselkä Geopark - Devil’s nest” or “Traces of Ice Age”
Later on, you can pop by at the Lahti harbor that has been completely transformed from a heavy-industry port into an oasis for Lahti’s residents and tourists alike. At the harbor area you can also explore Kariniemi and Olavi Lanu Sculpture Park - consisting arboretum and massive sculptures which blend into the scenery. This is an important recreational area between central Lahti and the shore of Lake Vesijärvi.
DAY 4 HIDDEN ISLAND
After enjoying breakfast with local twists, drive to the countryside. Short trip with a rowing boat takes you to a private, untouched island. You can spend your day by admiring the nature, relaxing on the beach rocks, swimming or fishing. You may also rest in the wilderness cabin located
at the island. One of the highlight of the day is a picnic lunch you make together with the guide by open fire. The guide also teach how to find, recognize, pick and preserve wild greens easily and how exciting it is to use them in cooking! After relaxed day it is time to head back to the hotel.
DAY 5 FINNISH LAKELAND
Drive to a resort located by the second largest lake in Finland, Lake Päijänne (40 km / 45 min). Accommodation in a cosy log villa with breakfast. The resort favors ecological energy solutions like solar energy, lake heat and heat recovery. All food which is served comes from own farm or farms from surrounding area.
On the way to your cabin, stop at Vääksy village. Enjoy a lunch at one of the local cafés, visit local bakeries and micro-brewery or take a walk at the surroundings of Vääksy Canal and Old Vääksy
village. After arrival to the cabin, it is time to enjoy the silence of the surrounding nature and countryside, sauna and swimming. Dinner from own farm’s products is served to the cabin.
DAY 6 NATURE ACTIVITIES AND LOCAL FARMS
Possibility to do either self-guided activities at the resort or take a guided nature tour (wild herbs, berry or mushroom picking) to the surrounding nature or enjoy the views of the most scenic route / Päijänne National park and visit at local farm nearby.
Lunch and dinner at own cost.
After a delicious country-style breakfast, drive to Järvenpää. Accommodation in countryside Inn, yet only about 3 km from Järvenpää city center. Inn and it’s restaurant is also known for its organic food - all food is made from start to finish handcrafted from fresh ingredients! At the moment, the restaurant is the only one in Finland, which offers 99 % organic food. They want to contribute to the preservation of clean nature, the living conditions of farm animals and the kind of planet we leave behind. In the afternoon, free time to explore the city surroundings either by car or by rental bicycle (optional/ extra charge).
DAY 8 SUSTAINABLE HELSINKI
After breakfast drive to Helsinki and returning the rental car to the train station. Accommodation in centrally located hotel, which has Green Key certificate. Free time to explore the city independently.
DAY 9 DEPARTURE
Free morning and departure by airport bus or train to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
