The Pesäkallio conservation area contains a comprehensive collection of forest and swamp types and rare plant species. There are major elevation differences in the area, and the Pesäkallio area is characterised by rugged rocky forests and lush groves. The Pesäkallio area has an illuminated hiking trail and smaller nature trails, marked on trees with painted spots.

The Pesäkallio conservation area in Lahti was attached to the Natura 2000 - network in 2004. Northern and southern parts of the conservation area are hiking and outdoor activity areas. According to the zoning plan preparation of Lahti city the conservation area was expanded to size of 200 hectares in 2013.

The southern forests of the Pesäkallio conservation area are particularly significant concerning protecting broad leaf woodlands. The northern Natura-area is an area of bogs with a lot of trees. Ten bog destinations in the northern and southern parts include several endangered bog nature types.
In the forests of Pesäkallio can be found black woodpecker, hazel grouse and red-breasted flycatcher. They belong to Natura-area's protected bird species.
