Laasonpohja is the area of Lake Vesijärvi that has been most affected by eutrophication. It is one of the most valuable waterfowl habitats, both nationally and internationally.

Lake Vesijärvi is a groundwater influenced lake and there are several parts with valuable birdlife, and Laasonpohja is one of the most valuable waterfowl habitats, both nationally and internationally. The conservation area is included in the national Waterfowl Habitats Conservation Programme and it belongs to the Natura 2000 -network. The conservation areas of Laasonpohja cover a total area of 128 hectares.
