Slow Lakeland, create your own ideal holiday for relaxing

Choose a program of your interest and deepen your understanding of Finnish nature, culture, traditions. The idea is that, over five-ten days, you do at least one relaxing thing and fill your body and mind with pure air and positive thoughts and you have left stresses of real life far behind you. Once you’ve spent a few days exploring… go off-line and slip into a meditative state! Underneath you will find two program examples, one for the summer and other for the winter.

DAY 1:
Arrival to Helsinki and drive with a rental car to Asikkala. Accommodation in an individually decorated log cabin by Lake Päijänne, the second largest lake in Finland. After arrival, enjoy the beauty and tranquility of surrounding nature before experiencing the sauna. Later in the evening, before entering the sauna, you will learn about the importance of the nature in Finnish culture and hear stories of the traditional Finnish beliefs, ancient spells as well as effectiveness of sauna and used materials. At sauna, you will have individual and relaxing whisking treatment which includes at least two different types of whisks (for example birch, maple, oak, aspen, alder, linden, rowan, juniper), followed by whole body massage with birch whisks and honey/clay with herbs.
After the sauna, it is time to enjoy genuine tastes of Finnish sauna menu of your choice:
• Sliced vegetables and herb pesto, rye snacks and Smetana spiced with the common polypody or herb meatballs with cranberry sauce
• Traditional Finnish sauna sausage made over the sauna stove and cognac mustard or baked potato with filling of your choice: smoked vendace, smoked ham or beetroot pesto
• Local cheeses with farm’s own jams, smoothie from local forest berries, season’s berries / fruits on a spit with chocolate sauce or fresh strawberries from local farm with whipped cream and twist of raspberry liquor
• Local beers made by local brewery and ice tea and water with cranberry twist

DAY 2:
Breakfast at the cabin and after breakfast, slow walk into to the nearby forest. At the forest, you’ll experience the powers of the nature and with nature based mindfulness exercise. Free afternoon and evening to enjoy the silence of the surrounding nature and countryside. After 10.00 pm, magic midnight SUP tour! Enjoy the midnight sun and midsummer’s beauty in a unique way! Your guide will teach you how to paddle with stand-up board and after a short exercise you’ll start paddling along the shore… during the tour you get touch with the silence and pureness of Finnish nature.
After the tour, it’s not time to go to sleep... it is time to imagine yourself relaxing on a warm outdoor pool under a beautiful sunset or stars in the sky- feeling relaxed in the pool...

DAY 3:
Breakfast at the cabin and drive to Sysmä. Accommodation in a cabin close to Lake Päijänne and village centre. Later on, drive to Päijätsalo Island where you will enjoy the enchanting greenness of Finnish summer, pure and fresh air, and get some gentle exercise while learning about the traditional use and benefits of the marvelous plants that grow wild in our woods and meadows. Together we’ll wildcraft some plants, which you can afterwards use either in herbal sauna, cooking, making simple natural cosmetics or make arts & crafts! After wildcrafting, drive back to the cabin and pick up the program of your interest:
• Feel the magic of Finnish wild and medicinal plants in a sauna experience conducted according to local Finnish traditions
• Cooking with wild herbs and berries
• Making simple natural cosmetics with wild herbs and berries
• Arts & Crafts with natural materials: make a dream catcher from birch or willow branches and dried berries

Later in the evening, snack and peat sauna (optional).

DAY 4:
Breakfast at the cabin and drive Toivakka. Accommodation in Taulu Manor House, which is renovated by respecting the traditions and by preserving the atmosphere of old days. Later during the day, you will experience the Finnish forest’s empowering and calming effect during the walking tour called “Cradle of the forest”. The program begins with a session during which you are prepared for the upcoming experience. After session, your guide will lead you to the forest, where you settle in a hammock. It is time to watch the swinging treetops and enjoy the forest in your all senses! The time you spend in the forest may vary from five minutes to half an hour according to the individual experience. After relaxation, you will walk back and the guide leads you through a discussion session in which you share your experiences.
Free time and dinner made from Finnish, organic ingredients and by using wild herbs.

DAY 5:
Breakfast and after breakfast, visit at Finnish family. During the visit, you get a peek into Finnish way of life and enjoy cup of coffee with the family. Independent lunch and later on, drive to Wäärälä. Before dinner, made from home-grown products, you will discover how effortless and pleasurable meditation can be with drum music for deep meditation. Drum Mediation is verbally guided and you will easily fall in the meditative state of mind although you would not have previous experience in meditation. After drumming, there is possibility to ask questions and share the experiences. Drum meditation is possible to keep outside in nature during the summer time.

DAY 6:
Breakfast and after breakfast, drive to Hartola. Accommodation in double rooms in idyllic, privately owned Linna Hotel located at Finnish countryside. After arrival, delicious lunch made from local ingredients. Later in the afternoon, you will have a stress relief treatment with Finnish neurosonic method. Free time and later in the evening, a traditional way of saying goodbye to stress: Finnish full body alignment, called Kalevala “bone-setting”. Kalevala bone-setting” is a treatment which loosens muscles, ligaments, fluids and circulation on nerve system back to their natural state. In the past bone setting was learned in conjunction with acupressure, massage and lymph therapy. This type of training was normal practice in Finnish families and communities being passed on from generation to generation. After treatments, free time and tasty dinner made in a spirit of seasonal inspirations.

DAY 7:
Country-style breakfast and guided walk at the surroundings of Tainiovirta River: wading or swimming in the flowing water. After walk, departure to the airport: it is time to take home a new you

WINTER PACKAGE:

DAY 1:
Arrival to Helsinki and drive with a rental car to Laukaa (independent lunch on the way). Accommodation in villas with country-style breakfast in a beautiful and historic country milieu of Varjola. After arrival, slow walk with lanterns to the surrounding nature: discover the beauty of the winter with pure snow, trees covered with snow and icicles..The walk includes coffee around open fire and snack. Later in the evening, tasty dinner at farm’s idyllic barn restaurant.

DAY 2:
After breakfast, guided ice floating session! Guests are dressed in floating suits and guide provides instructions: admire the nature around you and listen to the quietness... After floating, free time and later on, drive to Spa Hotel Peurunka (only 10 min. from the villas). Independent lunch. Later in the afternoon, it is time to melt away the tensions and fatigue and feel the gentle heat of infrared sauna in sauna yoga exercise and the pure peat treatment! Relaxing sauna yoga is a 30-minute exercise done in infrared sauna, a modern way to relax as the peat body treatment is a traditional and natural Finnish way to make you feel completely relaxed. Later in the evening, independent dinner at hotel’s restaurant and drive back to villas.

DAYS 3 -6:
After breakfast, drive to Hotel Revontuli located in Hankasalmi. During the next three days, it is time to chase the northern lights and river diamonds! The package includes accommodation in a traditional Finnish cabin, enjoying the different kinds of Finnish saunas and outdoor tub, two photographing tours including chasing of river diamonds in river rapids and auroras on Lake Virmas, slow walk to the winter forest and visit and guided tour at Sirius Observatory with information about the northern lights, space and the stars... Independent lunches and dinners during days 3-6.

DAY 6:

DAY 7:
Breakfast at the cabin. Later on, ice fishing trip to Lake Päijänne: a session of ice-fishing can be counted as a sort of meditation. Whilst waiting patiently for something to happen – and often nothing does – your mind clears itself unexpectedly and effortlessly... After ice-fishing, coffee around open fire and snack. The rest of day and evening is your own free time: you can take a walk or sit by the fire and read a good book and later on, relax at outdoor hot tub and look the stars in the sky... Independent dinner.

DAY 8:
Breakfast and departure to the airport with recharged you!
