Address: Vierumäentie 573, 47650 Kimola
You can navigate from Vesijärvi, Päijänne and Konnivesi lakes via Kimola Canal to Kymijoki river and Kouvola. The 70 meters long tunnel and the exceptionally high lock of 12 meters make the Kimola canal a special experience.
The former channel for log floating has undergone a complete change in two years. The canal, which starts from Vuolenkoski village, Iitti, and ends in Kouvola's Kimola, has now been dredged and widened to suit boaters and cruise ships.
The old bundle cranes have been replaced by a boat lock with a closing height of 12 meters. The 4.8-meter-high floating tunnel and the exceptionally high closing height make Kimola a memorable experience for boaters. The eight-meter-wide barrier can accommodate a vessel about 30 meters long.
With the canal, you can get from the Lahti Region to Voikkaa in the Kouvola Region. The water connection passes through Vesijärvi, Vääksy canal, Päijänne, Kalkkinen canal and Ruotsalainen to Konnivesi, where there is the western end of the Kimola canal. The eastern end of the canal is on the Kouvola and Pyhäjärvi side.
The closure of the canal can also be admired on foot. There is a parking area on the canal, which is located along Vierumäentie (road no. 363).
