PLEASE NOTE! Traffic on Kiikuntie road is being restricted. Motor vehicles are allowed on the road only with a special permission.

Kiikunlähde Spring is a unique and delicate nature site, situated on a private land. The terrain surrounding the spring has suffered from erosion due to the large number of visitors. Please remember that the everyman’s right does not apply to private yards or piers, and littering or trespassing is not allowed. The parking space is closed and we urge that this site will not be visited for the time being.

The Salpausselkä region’s valuable groundwater reserves are mostly hidden underground, but become visible in, e.g. natural springs. Kiikunlähde Spring is part of Kukonkoivu-Hatsina groundwater recharge area, situated within the First Salpausselkä. It is one of the largest underground aquifers of Finland, measured by water yield as well as area. The temperature of the water discharging from the bed of the spring basin is always at five degrees Celsius – thus the basin remains unfrozen all through the year, even during the coldest winter months. The water continues its' journey along Kiikunoja Brook, discharging to Lake Vesijärvi nearby the grand medieval stone church of Hollola. The church lies in the Hollola historical centre, which is an interesting place to visit, featuring also a hillfort with a viewing tower.

If visiting the site by foot or bicycle: Please remember to respect both the natural surroundings and the privacy of the residents - stay on the route and within the designated location, do not enter the fenced areas. The viewing platform offers the best photo angle. The spring is not for swimming, as it is used as household water source. Please keep dogs on leash.
