”A civilised citizenry” – this is the vision that has guided Finnish libraries from the 19th century onwards. You could say that the goal has been achieved, since today the Finns form one of the world’s most literate nations and Finns are among the world’s most enthusiastic users of public libraries – (In 2016 the UN named Finland the world’s most literate nation). Finnish libraries are nowadays much more than places where you can borrow books and read magazines and newspapers.
Municipality of Lahti has 24 libraries including mobile libraries or bookbuses. Lahti Main Library offers various services from traditional library services to more special ones such as editing and digitizing or even offering legal advice and using a 3D printer! Come to hear more about Lahti Main Library’s services and learn about Finnish libraries!
